Rainforests of the Sea explores plastic contamination in the marine environment. The paintings and sculptures use thousands of plastic debris collected and cleaned from Singapore’s marine shores, including East Coast, Sembawang, Changi, Pasir Ris Park, Kranji, Sungei Pandan, Seletar North Link, Lim Chu Kang and Pulau Ubin, many of which are strikingly familiar single-use items. Rainforests of the Sea composited these found pollutants using a visually delightful color-chart method to engage the viewer in a deeper exploration of how oceans have been consumed by plastic litter mostly originating from the land.
Special thanks to Our Singapore Reefs and Nanyang Girls’ High School for their contribution to the project.
